Are you beginning to plan your 2022 Executive Leadership retreat?

Has your typical yearly retreat to a swanky resort lost its lure years ago. As an executive leader I am sure you have experienced the conventional retreat at the fancy retreat center with all the amenities.

The evening events include a high-priced dinner with an expensive bottle of Bordeaux. I am sure you have found yourself feeling bored sitting around a conference room table talking about strategies and spreadsheets.

The afternoon team building exercises are canned and mind numbing with no real-life impact. I am pretty sure you know its old and boring wishing you could take your leadership team on a retreat that changed how they lead for real.  

In my experience structured and comfortable retreats have no real impact and stimulate little change in your life or the lives of the leaders of your company. Think about your last executive retreat, did the experience change your life? Did you come back with a real story to tell about your experience? Was there an opportunity to come face to face with your own fears permanently changing your perspective on life and leadership? I am going to guess the answer is “No” to most of the above questions.

Real leadership transformation only comes when you get uncomfortable.

Real life adventures present uncertainty, obstacles, challenges and decision making you cannot experience at a cozy retreat sitting around the board room table.

So, I ask you how uncomfortable are you willing to get to transcend your current leadership. Are you ready to get out of the boardroom and take your team to the top of mountain where you can experience an authentic shift and return home with a new leadership story to tell?
