Did you know positive thinking has a direct effect on your business results?
One primary area of focus with my clients is mindset and improving their ability to think positively. Did you know as humans we are hardwired to think negatively first? It goes back to prehistoric times. It is a fight or flight response that helped us stay out of harm’s way. It allowed us to be more vigilant in the presence of predators that threatened our physical safety. I think we all know times have changed, but our brains have yet to catch up.
There is, however, good news, you can strengthen the neurological pathways that light up when you feel happy. Becoming more self-aware and connected to positive experiences allows you to grow your sense of joy, love, and gratitude. With practice, you can change your mindset to one that is more positive so that when you are faced with challenges you will be less likely to get discouraged and give up. By choosing to stay optimistic your confidence will grow, allowing you to overcome more challenges and achieve greater success.
So how do you start to have a more positive mindset so you can improve the success of your business?
First, take a look around you. You have heard the old adage “birds of a feather flock together” pay attention to the attitudes of the company you keep. Negative cynical, unhappy people are contagious and will have a strong influence on your ability to develop a positive mindset. Clear your circle of influence of negativity.
Purposefully surround yourself with people you admire and who represent the kind of person you want to become. This includes internal and external partners. You should be surrounded by a team of people who remain positive during the most challenging times. They should be a team who seeks to find solutions rather than getting stuck in the emotions that come with being faced with a challenge. Externally, your customers and partners should be those who provide positive experiences creating a ripple effect of positivity.
Connect with your “why”. If you follow me, you have heard me talk about this a lot, and for good reason. It’s a BIG deal! Your “why” should be the foundation of your business and your life. Every decision, action, and behavior should be driven by your “why”. In order to maintain a positive mindset, you need to know who you are. You must be keenly aware of your core values and how your purpose and passion drive everything you do. If your “why” is not clear, you will be walking aimlessly through life making decisions that do not align with who you are and what you want to achieve in your lifetime.
Know your story and understand the narrative. Are you living your life and managing your business based on a storyline written in the past? Do you hold false beliefs and assumptions about yourself that are getting in your way and causing you to play small? You would be surprised how impactful this can be. I have had the personal experience of changing the story I told myself and my business is growing significantly. Tune into your personal story, it could change your life and the success of your business.
If you want to improve the success of your business start with positive thinking.
It is not easy and does take practice. Remember we are hardwired to be negative. When you begin to think more positively you will experience a shift in your perspective allowing you to see the good things in life.
